2018 Latest Happenings

2018 - Band Update – New Directions

2017 was a productive creative year for us! We spent a lot of time working in the studio crafting new songs and arrangements that develop the interplay between Phil’s edgy Lapsteel sound and David’s Alto Sax. New tunes blend our roots in jazz/rock/folk/blues fusion with other world genres. We're grooving into ska and combining eastern sounds with western underpinnings. Other new soundscapes explore a Celtic vibe with Jazz improvisation.

New sound developing...

We have been collaborating with talented Montreal bassist, Dylan Kell-Kirkman. What a blast, that is! We are morphing the sound as Dylan adds a new funky edge to our existing repertoire.

Lyrically speaking...

New tunes are exploring the sense that a lot of people have these days of the ground shifting beneath their feet. David has been delving into the emotions that ensue when you’re in the thick of change, trying to find peace and tranquility in the midst of chaos. These new songs are about defining what is real and lasting in a hailstorm of glitter and triviality.

Happy Halloween Everyone!

We are so excited to share some of our new music with you when we open for "Juliana &  Jesse" @ La Vitrola on Saturday, Nov. 5th/16 @ 8:00 P.M.. We have been exploring exciting new sounds combining, Alto Sax, Lapsteel, and Piano. Our new tunes have taken us into interesting new areas where Country, Blues, and Jazz fuse. We have added some really smooth new Blues tunes written by Phil and our new member, pianist, Mary Cowan. These tunes feature the rich texture of Rachelle's voice on lead vocals. We also have some new instrumental tunes that delve into David's exploration of Indian music and fuse Bertrand's rhythmic groove with improvisation that allows East to meet West. If you're free, please come and join us for another great evening of original music. Tickets are $10.00 at the door and are also available at julianaandjesse.com.

DEB Getting Intimate at the St. Lawrence Acoustic Stage

So, lots of things brewing...in the rehearsal hall and otherwise. We've been using these cold days to dig into new sonic weaves with keys, slide and sax. Winter alchemy. Excited about where it is all leading and ready to share the new direction.

We're getting geared up for a show at the St. Lawrence Acoustic Stage in Morrisburg, Ontario. This is a great venue that features professional artists, emerging artists and Canadian songwriters. We will be appearing with five other diverse acts (Moon Fruits, Supernatural Buffalo, Joe Hehir, Ella Berman, Brighid Fry) in the Intimate Acoustic show to be held March 4th, starting at 7pm. We look forward to performing new arrangements. Join us, let the music thaw us out, mix & mingle. It'll be a fun night!
